Sintra, A Dream City
Posted by: | Posted on: March 10, 2024Sintra is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It belongs to Portugal and is located near Lisbon. Formerly it was known as Mons Lunae (the Mountains of the Moon), as it had a strong tradition of astral cults. Sintra has been declared World Heritage by UNESCO, because of the large number of archaeological sites and monuments with which account. Contact information is here: The University of Chicago. It is a city with a large influx of tourists thanks to its cultural heritage. Among its major attractions are its three national Palacios: the Palacio de Queluz, Palacio da Pena and the Palacio da Vila and some municipal museums. Thanks to its unique combination of castles, parks and gardens, Sintra has a beautiful and unusual geography.
The city center is about 15 minutes walk from the train station. The heart of Sintra is a real gem. Everything seems out of a fairy tale, from its medieval streets and alleys, to its remotest corners. In the center there is a wonderful toy museum, which will delight young and old, as well as craft shops, bakeries and restaurants. No prierda Jardins de Monserrate, full of subtropical plants and exotic trees.
Other stops of interest are the palaces of Seteais and Monserrate, in addition to the eighth century Arab castle. hese are some of the obligatory stops: the Capuchin Convent, the Igreja de Santa Maria del XII or follow some of the private castles open to the public and Seteais Palace, a magnificent eighteenth century mansion converted into a five star hotel, the two Ribafria House, a XVI century building, the Quinta de Pena Verde, another sixteenth-century palace and Monserrate Palace, built in the nineteenth century. In addition, there are plenty of museums to visit: Casa Museu Leal de chambers, which exhibits works of art from the palaces, the Regional Museum, which displays the history of region, the Museu de Arte Moderna, Casa Museu Dorita Castel Branco, Municipal Art Gallery, etc. To make matters worse, Sintra has spectacular beaches, and that extends along a stunning coastline.
